PITTSBURGH, PA, June 20, 2023 – The vivid and vivacious vocalist Ledisi was born in New Orleans with jazz, R&B, blues and gospel music in her veins. She honed those musical styles as a singer raised in Oakland, and is loved around the world, including in Pittsburgh, where she delivered a crowd-pleasing performance at last year’s Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival presented by Citizens (PIJF). This year, Ledisi returns to the 13th edition of the festival with Ledisi Sings Nina, her powerful, show-stopping tribute to the legendary vocalist/composer/pianist/activist Nina Simone on Friday, September, 15 at 8:00 pm, at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center (AWAACC), 980 Liberty Avenue. New York, NY, June 8, 2023 – World-famous trumpeter/arranger/composer/producer Quincy Jones will be given a new eponym on Friday, June 16, at 6:30 pm – The Quincy Jones Conservatory – formerly the Conservatoire de la Communauté urbaine Grand Paris Seine & Oise, located in Mantes-la-Jolie in France. Jones, who has worked with numerous entertainment greats including Ray Charles, Duke Ellington, Sarah Vaughan, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and more, has a close connection with the region and considers France as his second home.

PITTSBURGH, PA, May 16, 2023 – When the Los Angeles native Georgia Anne Muldrow came on the scene in 2006, she was a best-kept secret – an underground superheroine of sound, who combined J Dilla’s breathtaking beats, George Clinton’s P-funk, Nina Simone’s truth-telling and Sun Ra’s interstellar Afrofuturism. Twenty albums and EP’s later, the secret is out, and today Muldrow is one of this century’s most prolific and pioneering artists. PITTSBURGH, PA, May 4, 2023 – Ray Brown, Art Blakey, Billy Eckstine, Fatha Hines, Mary Lou Williams, Ahmad Jamal, Stanley Turrentine and Erroll Garner are just a few of the greats who answered the Pittsburgh jazz roll call. Through their music, these sons and daughters of Pittsburgh not only spoke the language, but they also re-invented it, refined it and expanded it through musical conversations across time and place. They understood how the language of jazz connects us, encourages us to remember where we’ve been and where we’re going, and gives voice to our shared community. LOS ANGELES, CA, January 31, 2023 – For nearly all of his four-decade career, the Los Angeles-based pianist/composer Bobby West was an unheralded scientist of sound: well-known and respected in his community, but largely unknown beyond it, with no recordings of his own as a leader. Like so many jazz artists, West went abroad in 1993, mostly to the Middle East, North Africa, Europe, Asia and Taiwan for better opportunities, with occasional visits back home.
