PITTSBURGH, PA, August 27, 2024 – Get your tickets for vocalist Maysa, prepare your palate, put on your dancing shoes and head to the August Wilson African American Cultural Center (AWAACC), 980 Liberty Avenue in downtown Pittsburgh, for the annual Taste of Jazz Party (TOJ), an evening of music, dancing, food and beverage tastings on Friday, September 20, starting at 8:00 pm with Maysa in concert in the AWAACC main theater followed by TOJ from 9:00 pm – Midnight.

New York, NY, August 12, 2024 – In celebration of Max Roach 100, the legendary late jazz drummer, composer, bandleader, activist, will be honored with a performance by M’BOOM + HORNS, in Marcus Garvey Park on August 16, starting at 7:00 pm. Commissioned by Jazzmobile with a generous grant from the Mellon Foundation and Harlem Grown | CCCI, the Music Directors are the original founding member Warren Smith and former member Bobby Sanabria. Founded in 1970 by the legendary Max Roach, M'BOOM is an ensemble comprised completely of percussionists using orchestral percussion instruments – marimba, xylophone, tympani, vibes, orchestra bells, gongs, the American drum set, Afro-Latin percussion and the Trinidadian steel pan. The original ensemble featured Roach, Warren Smith, Freddie Waits, Omar Clay, Joe Chambers, Roy Brooks and Ray Mantilla. Sheila Anderson, on air host of WBGO 88.3 Radio, is the evening’s Emcee.

PITTSBURGH, PA, August 8, 2024 – The award-winning composer, bandleader and keyboardist Robert Glasper takes the stage at the 14th Annual Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival (PIJF), co-presented by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, on Saturday, September 21, 8:45 – 10:00 pm, in a Free concert on Liberty Avenue between 10th and 7th Streets downtown, near the August Wilson African American Cultural Center (AWAACC), 980 Liberty Avenue. Backed by drummer Justin Tyson, bassist Burniss Travis and longtime collaborator DJ Jahi Sundance, Glasper returns to Pittsburgh with his modern meld of jazz, R&B, neo-soul, hip-hop, electronica, dub and dance genres.
