Enjoy an American Holiday with the Country’s Most Original Art Form, as Imani Records Celebrates Labor Day Weekend with the Inaugural Club Patio Jazz Day
on Saturday, August 31, 2024, 12:00pm - 6:00 pm,
at Whitemarsh Valley Event Center, Fort Washington, PA
The Event Features Orrin Evans, Marianne Solivan,
David Gibson, Luke Carlos O’Reilly,
Caleb Wheeler Curtis, Jonathan Michel, Milton Suggs,
Thomas Marriott and Others
Marianne Solivan, a subtle, supple-voiced singer who has worked with Christian McBride, Jeremy Pelt and Steve Nelson, and teaches at Syracuse University.
Pianist Luke Carlos O’Reilly, a Boston-born keyboardist, who played with Seal, Nicholas Payton and Steve Turre, who is equally at home in straight-ahead, Latin, pop, hip-hop and New Orleans settings, and currently is a Kimmel Center Jazz Residency Artist.
Trombonist and Oklahoma native David Gibson, a mainstay in the Captain Black Big Band and the George Gee Swing Orchestra, is straight out of J.J. Johnson, with his post-bop, fluent bone lines.
Brooklyn-based alto saxophonist and MacDowell Fellow Caleb Wheeler Curtis creates improvisations with a laser beamed lyricism that cuts through cliched licks to unveil syncopated sounds of surprise, as evidenced by his work with Evans, bassist Eric Revis and drummer Gerald Cleaver.
Seattle Trumpeter Thomas Marriott, a mellow-toned, flexible sideman for Evans, Rosemary Clooney, Charlie Hunter and the Spanish Harlem Orchestra, was the recipient of the Jazz Journalists Association’s 2024 Jazz Hero Award for his work for his non-profit group, the Seattle Jazz Fellowship and is a nine-time winner of Seattle’s Golden Ear Awards.
Chicago vocalist Milton Suggs, a perennial place holder in the Down Beat Talent Deserving Wider Recognition category in their annual Critics Poll, has released Pure Intention, his new duo vocal/piano album on the Imani label with pianist Michael King. Blessed with a commanding baritone voice, Suggs is one of the most distinctive male jazz singers to emerge on the scene.
Acoustic bassist and bandleader Jonathan Michel began his career touring with the R&B Grammy-winner Billy Paul and later became his musical director. He went on to work with Aaron Goldberg, Andrew Cyrille, Terrace Martin and Orrin Evans, among others. He released his first album as a leader, MDR, in 2018 and leads a monthly residency at Smalls Jazz club.
General admission tickets are $50.00 and $150. 00 for VIP seating, which includes admission, a CD gift pack from each artist and a food and drink ticket. For more information on tickets and the Club Patio Jazz Day, log on to bit.ly/imanijazzday.
