“We’re excited to add Stamford’s Project Music, an after-school music education program, to our performance roster,” said Deborah Ross, Newport Festivals Foundation Director of Education and Jazz Assembly Project Director. “While the audiences at all of the schools have enjoyed the performances, these students have a special interest in music. They are looking forward to playing ‘Joe Avery’s Blues’ with the band and I can’t wait to hear and see their enthusiasm and dedication to music.”

The series, funded by Newport Festivals Foundation, Inc. with support from the Estate of H. Stewart Ross, connects professional musicians to schools with minimal or no music programs to present jazz concerts for students who may not have had the experience of attending a live concert.

Each Assembly, which introduces students to the music presented at the Newport Jazz Festival®, is 35-40 minutes long and consists of oral presentations, question/answer sessions and several musical segments that span the timeline of jazz history, including Dixieland, Big Band, Bebop, Fusion, Cool and Modal Jazz.

Newport Jazz Assembly band members are music director Ben Marcoux, saxophones/clarinet; Joshua Bruneau, trumpet/flugelhorn; Jimmy O’Connell, trombone; Tony Davis, guitar; Noah Barker, keyboard; Alex Tremblay, upright bass; and Mike Camacho, drums.
