HARLEM, NY, October 29, 2015 – Jazzmobile’s one night only benefit concert “Keep the Music Playing” returns to The Sanctuary at First Corinthian Baptist Church (FCBC), 1912 Adam Clayton Powell Blvd., with 36 artists and other special guests on Friday, November 13, at 7:30 pm. The evening’s proceeds will support Jazzmobile’s education programs.
This year, Billy Taylor’s daughter, Kim Taylor-Thompson, is the Honorary Benefit Chair. Music Directors Winard Harper, the last drummer of the Billy Taylor Trio, and Danny Mixon, Hot House Magazine’s pianist of the year, have worked with Jazzmobile to bring an impressive group of established and emerging jazz artists for two hours of incredible music to The Sanctuary stage. Executive Producer is Robin Bell-Stevens; the Mistress of Ceremonies is vocalist Cynthia Holiday.

“These talented musicians will have the audience clapping their hands, stomping their feet and dancing in the aisles in celebration of the legacy of Dr. Taylor and the 50-year history of Jazzmobile,” said Robin Bell-Stevens, the organization’s Director. “This spring over 600 public school students attended Jazzmobile’s lecture-demonstrations and nearly 100 students participated in the Saturday Jazz Workshop performance training program. The demand for these programs exceeds the organization’s resources, and we hope and pray for a great turn out to help us keep the music playing.”

When Jazzmobile founders Dr. Billy Taylor and Daphne Arnstein created Jazzmobile in 1964, they knew it was the right time for the community and the music to bring high-quality free concerts and education programs to the residents of Harlem. With the talents and skills of jazz greats such as Jimmy Heath, innovative and cutting edge performance and education programs were established. Over the years, Jazzmobile expanded beyond New York City, and when funding allowed, traveled across the country and to cities in other nations.
