HARLEM, NY, October 29, 2015 – Jazzmobile’s one night only benefit concert “Keep the Music Playing” returns to The Sanctuary at First Corinthian Baptist Church (FCBC), 1912 Adam Clayton Powell Blvd., with 36 artists and other special guests on Friday, November 13, at 7:30 pm. The evening’s proceeds will support Jazzmobile’s education programs.

This year, Billy Taylor’s daughter, Kim Taylor-Thompson, is the Honorary Benefit Chair.  Music Directors Winard Harper, the last drummer of the Billy Taylor Trio,  and Danny Mixon, Hot House Magazine’s pianist of the year, have worked with Jazzmobile to bring an impressive group of established and emerging jazz artists for two hours of incredible music to The Sanctuary stage.   Executive Producer is Robin Bell-Stevens; the Mistress of Ceremonies is vocalist Cynthia Holiday.

Donating their performance (in alphabetical order) are: Lisle Atkinson, Bass; Kenyatta Beasley, Trumpet; T.K. Blue, Saxophone; Andrea Brachfeld, Flute; Chad Carter, Vocals; Vince DuPont, Bass; Joe Farnsworth, Drums; Michael Fleming, Bass; Eli Fountain, Drums; David F. Gibson, Drums: Philip Harper, Trumpet; Allan Harris, Vocals;  Lafayette Harris, Piano; Antonio Hart, Saxophone; Patience Higgins, Saxophone; Jay Hoggard, Vibes; Michela Lerman, Tap; Ray Mantilla, Percussion; Antoinette Montague, Vocals; Jimmy Owens, Trumpet; Jeb Patton, Piano; Jeremy Pelt, Trumpet, Houston Person, Saxophone, Bobby Sanabria, Percussion; Bryce Sebastien, Bass; Centenarian Fred Staton, Saxophone (at 100 he is the oldest performing Jazz musician); Brianna Thomas, Vocals; Lynette Washington, Vocals;  James Weidman, Piano;  Chip White,  Drums;  David Wong,  Bass;  Eli Yamin, Piano;  Miki Yamanaka, Piano, and other surprise guests.

“These talented musicians will have the audience clapping their hands, stomping their feet and dancing in the aisles in celebration of the legacy of Dr. Taylor and the 50-year history of Jazzmobile,” said Robin Bell-Stevens, the organization’s Director. “This spring over 600 public school students attended Jazzmobile’s lecture-demonstrations and nearly 100 students participated in the Saturday Jazz Workshop performance training program.  The demand for these programs exceeds the organization’s resources, and we hope and pray for a great turn out to help us keep the music playing.”

TICKETS: Early Bird General Seating tickets are $10 through November 3; $15, beginning November 4; Reserved Section Seating, $50; and a Limited Number of $100 VIP Pre-Concert Dinner tickets are available.  Tickets can be purchased on-line through www.Eventbrite.com (search Jazzmobile); www.jazzmobile.org; the FCBC Box Office, 212. 678.7030/Dream Center, 203-205 West 119th Street.

About Jazzmobile

When Jazzmobile founders Dr.  Billy Taylor and Daphne Arnstein created Jazzmobile in 1964, they knew it was the right time for the community and the music to bring high-quality free concerts and education programs to the residents of Harlem.  With the talents and skills of jazz greats such as Jimmy Heath, innovative and cutting edge performance and education programs were established. Over the years, Jazzmobile expanded beyond New York City, and when funding allowed, traveled across the country and to cities in other nations.

Jazzmobile’s mission is to present, preserve, promote, and propagate Jazz – “America’s classical music.” Jazzmobile pioneered the concept of Jazz lecture-demonstrations and mobile Jazz performances,  and continues to  serve  as  a  model  for  other  Jazz  music  presentation-focused organizations around the country.  Jazzmobile reaches approximately 50,000 people in New York City each year, consisting of multi-ethnic audiences of all ages and socio-economic levels, including the disabled. To reach the largest possible audience, all of Jazzmobile’s programming is presented at no or low cost to participants.  Other outreach includes instructional workshops and panels and symposia that provide a historical framework for Jazz and its significance to American culture.

Today, Jazzmobile’s premier free out-of-doors series “SUMMERFEST” is the longest continuous running Jazz concert in the city and is the oldest organization of its kind in the world.  Jazzmobile has never wavered from its mission to present, preserve, promote and propagate America’s classical music, Jazz! About First Corinthian Baptist Church

First Corinthian Baptist Church (FCBC) was first organized in 1933. Since 2004, Pastor Michael A. Walrond, Jr. has served as senior pastor. Under Pastor Walrond's dynamic leadership the membership of FCBC has grown from 350 members to more than 10,000 members. FCBC is dedicated to upholding its purpose statement: “We are an ever evolving community of visionaries and dreamers who have been called by God to live the lives we were created to live; commanded by God to love beyond the limits of our prejudices and commissioned by God to serve.”

After major renovations in 2012, FCBC established itself as a cultural arts venue through The Sanctuary. With a vision of making the arts more accessible to the Harlem community, The Sanctuary is dedicated to producing and presenting theatrical, musical and visual art that reflects the community in which it serves.
