George Wein, who created the Newport Jazz Festival in 1954,” wrote in his blog, The Wein Machine, “It’s an enjoyable ride with fellow jazz enthusiasts, and it eliminates the need to think about gas, traffic, car rentals and parking.  All you have to do is think about the music.”

WBGO buses will depart from New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), 1 Center Street, Newark; Jazz at Lincoln Center, 10 Columbus Circle, Manhattan; BRIC House, 647 Fulton Street, Brooklyn; and Berklee College of Music, 1147 Boylston Street. The excursion includes round trip bus travel from each departure location directly to the festival gate, general admission ticket to the festival for a full day, plus access to the WBGO Shade Tent where complimentary refreshments will be served. Buses will have Wi-Fi, restroom and reclining bucket seats. These benefits are available only for those who book the WBGO package.

On Friday, August 1, WBGO buses will depart from Jazz at Lincoln Center promptly at 6:30 am and from Berklee College of Music at 9:00 am.

Buses will leave promptly at 5:30 am on Saturday, August 2, and Sunday, August 3, from Newark, Manhattan and Brooklyn and at 8:00 am from Boston.

Wein added, “Sixty years ago, in 1954, Newport was a tough place to get to.  From the north, you needed a road map to find the old stone bridge, which no longer exists, or you had to pay a toll on the bridge from Bristol.  From the south it was a pleasant ferry ride from Jamestown.  There were no highways and trains, and planes did not service the city.  I thought it would be a great place to do a jazz festival … I knew people would find it …"

WBGO Travel & Events, which designs first-class packages for visits to domestic and international locations for world-famous jazz festivals and deluxe tours offering exclusive opportunities for tour guests, makes finding and traveling to Newport easier than ever.
