a JAZZ TRIBUTE TO FRANK SINATRA featuring HANK JONES and the Half Note
Records CD Release Party featuring the MARY STALLINGS QUARTET April 12 –

and 10:30 p.m.

Back to salute the memory and magic of Ol’
Blue Eyes is pianist Hank Jones, who grew up in Michigan
with younger brothers, Thad and Elvin. He moved to New
York in 1943 and performed with Coleman Hawkins,
Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie and others.
He is not renowned because of the great musicians on his roster, but
because of his piano mastery and the beautiful music he makes. Joining him are
Sinatra vets trombonist Eddie Bert and bassist Jim DeJulio
plus drummer Mark Taylor, trumpeter Ted Curson,
saxophonists Julian Pressley and Leo Green, guitarist Howard Alden and singer Betsyann Faiella. Len Triola is the
producer of the tribute.
Born in San Francisco, Mary Stallings fell in love with music as a teenager. She impressed vibraphonist Cal Tjader with her innate vocal ability and four-octave
range. Soon she was sharing the stage
with Dizzy Gillespie and Billy Eckstine and toured
with the Count Basie Orchestra in the late 1960’s for
three years. During this time, she
sang with jazz luminaries Earl Hines, Joe Henderson and Tony Bennett, among
others. Today, with her debut release on
Half Note Records, Remember Love (produced by Geri Allen), Stallings shines like a beautiful prism, bringing new
dimension and clarity to great jazz singing.
